To Hartford we go, even on a weekday

Nineteen Monarchs Fans took time off from work
to make a trip to Hartford on Wednesday, March
22, 2006. This game was scheduled to start at
11:00 AM as part of the Wolf-pack’s Edu-Skate
event. This special, educational school day game
is a regularly scheduled AHL contest, developed in
cooperation with educational partners that allows
students to take an exciting field trip to a
Wolf*Pack hockey game. The goal is to use
hockey as a teaching tool for kids to learn about
math, geography, science, fitness and more.
We rented two 15 passenger vans from
Merchants Motors of Hooksett, NH and met at
Macy’s in Bedford. Leave time was 7:00 AM. Once
we arrived in Hartford, we picked up our tickets
and went to watch the guys practice.
The game did not pan out like we were hoping and
the Monarchs lost. One a side note, the Monarchs
were not the only ones who lost. I made a bet with
a Hartford Ticket Rep. We do it every time I attend a game in Hartford. The first couple times, I was on the winning end of things,
but this time I was on the dark side. The deal ~ if the Monarchs are winning at the end of two periods, the Rep had to wear
something Monarchs colored (chosen by me). If the Monarchs were down after the end of two periods, Dave (the Rep) selected
something for me to wear. Dave won and after gloating for about the last five minutes of the 2nd period, he handed me a
Wolf*Pack t-shirt to put on. He wasn’t done with me yet. He radioed the camera guy to have him put me, with the WP shirt, on
the video board. That was so not fair! But I had a plan. I waited until the camera was on me and I lifted the t-shirt to show my
Monarchs jersey to all in attendance.
The ride home was very interesting, but you needed to be there to know what was going on. What happens on a trip stays on a
trip.
